Creative Paint On Airplanes

Some airline companies are clearly out-painting competition with their groovy air fleet. Often called 'aircraft livery,' such special paint schemes can be exciting and even inspirational. Here are some particularly wild and even outrageous airliner paint schemes, from all over the world.

Meet John Doe. No, Really!

After he came to America from Korea more than three decades ago, Jang Do wanted what many immigrants have always wanted: to fit in. So he decided to Americanize his name. But at age 11, still fuzzy on the vernacular, he took an interesting tack.

First he turned 'Jang' into 'John.' Then, he talked his family into adding an 'e' to their last name. He was concerned, he said, about razzing and wanted to make sure it would be pronounced like the 'do' in 'tae kwon do' and not the 'do' in 'hairdo.' He has been John Doe ever since.

Yogi Ogi Dogi

I don't know who Yogi Ogi Dogi is, or how old this video is, but it's obviously from some children's program. Just take a look at this and tell me, does this make you feel as uncomfortable as it does me.

Yesterday I Felt Sad, Then I Discovered The Presurfer - Now I Am Happy

While playing around with Google image search I discovered the picture above. It was made with Meme Generator, where people can put text over images. I won't direct you there because The Presurfer is a weblog for all ages and some of the things people created are, let's say, not safe for work. I you want to go there I'm sure you can figure it out yourself.

Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised to see this and whoever made it, thank you very much.

Mind Trainer Loo Roll

As you sit there thinking, hmm, we really should re-decorate, look at all that dust on those pipes, this magazine is over two years old, and other such inanities, wouldn't you rather be having a bit of fun?

Now you can while away the time with some great brain teaser tests that will always be close at hand. From some mathematical gymnastics, to classic Sudoku, the Mind Trainer Loo Roll has some great brain-bending puzzles to keep your brain ticking and stop you reading the same joke book for the fortieth time.

Building Rome In A Day

The Graphics and Imaging Laboratory of the University of Washington's Department of Computer Science and Engineering are at the cutting edge of research based around crowd sourced imagery and 3D modelling. With billions of photos now online, these collections should enable huge opportunities in 3D, visualization, image-based rendering, recognition, and other research areas.

In their project 'Building Rome in a Day' the group considered the problem of reconstructing entire cities from images harvested from the web. The aim is to build a parallel distributed system that downloads all the images associated with a city from Flickr.com. After downloading, it matches these images to find common points and uses this information to compute the three dimensional structure of the city and the pose of the cameras that captured these images.

The Quick Brown Fox Jumps Over The Lazy Dog

I always though that 'the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog' was a phrase that not only contains all of the letters of the English alphabet but was also used to test typewriters and computer keyboards. But you know what? It really happened. The quick brown fox did jump over the lazy dog.
