The Beaufort Scale


The Beaufort Scale is a code for wind speed and force, originally defined as twelve progressively rougher sea conditions. The scale was devised in 1805 by Irish Admiral Sir Francis Beaufort. The scale ranges from 0 (calm) to 12 (hurricane).
