I guess the most famous missing person is Amelia Earhart, the American aviation legend who disappeared in 1937 somewhere in the South Pacific, near the end of an attempted round-the-world flight. Other famous missing persons are Jimmy Hoffa, Ambrose Bierce, and Glenn Miller.
