It has long been a source of irritation for opponents and tennis fans alike. But the infamous 'tennis grunt' could actually improve a player's game by enhancing the power of their strokes. New research claims that controlled grunting has physiological benefits by increasing core stability and strength.
Professor Alison McConnell of Brunel University said: By inhaling before the ball is hit then crying out at the moment of impact, a player's throat narrows, keeping some wind in the lungs to improve core strength and balance.
