Lost Britain From Above

Thousands of historic aerial photographs - which were almost lost forever - go online for the first time. Striking and evocative, they chart a dramatic period of British history - from the end of World War One to the year of the Queen's Coronation.

But these treasured photographs of famous landmarks such as St Paul's Cathedral and Blackpool Tower could have been lost forever, were it not for a major conservation project which has made them freely available on the internet for the first time.

More than 15,000 pictures - many so old and fragile that they were close to becoming beyond repair - have been uploaded on to the Britain from Above website, which is launched today.

RetroWebMatic

Vintage photo apps have shown us all that the crystal clear images that ubiquitous modern technology allows us to capture can be greatly enhanced by making them look like they've been taken by an old, cheap camera. RetroWebMatic brings vintage photo effects to the web and fills an obvious gap in the market.

Type in a website address to see how the site looks as if it was a photo taken by a vintage camera. You can use 5 different effects: toasted, lo-brow, tool shed, parchment and vinaigrette. Here's what The Presurfer would look like.
