The Hellenistic philosophers devoted much speculation to the problem of winning human happiness. The pursuit of sex, love and satisfaction might have been far from their ideals, however the longing was still present, yet unrecognized by those around them.
The Epicureans believed that the key to happiness was the enjoyment of pleasure, although they did not advise the life of wine, women, and song that is today associated with the term 'Epicurean.'
