Diving is the sport of jumping or falling into water from a platform or springboard, sometimes while performing acrobatics. A diver usually goes so fast that you can't see their facial expressions.
But when a photographer freezes them in the middle of their dive you see very expressive faces. For us, that looks funny. Or weird. I guess it's a combination of holding their breath and the effort it takes to complete the jump.
