It is a little known fact that YouTube actually started in 1985.
It was a complete failure.

The Top Ten Strange And Unusual Japanese Chewing Gums

Japanese chewing gum differs from American chewing gum in many ways, and that probably is a result of the practical way Japan looks at chewing gum. Since it's merely chewed for a while and then disposed of, it just makes sense for chewing gum to serve some function, any function before being spat out.

This way of thinking can produce some very strange and unusual types of chewing gum. Here's a top ten list of strange Japanese chewing gums.

THE AWESOMER

The Awesomer is a daily blog filled with awesome stuff for guys (but ladies are always welcome). Initially conceptualized as a technology shopping blog, it's now more or less a massive repository for whatever we find interesting. We're like that closet that you throw everything into, albeit a bit more organized, and minus the ratty tee you've worn since freshman year.

In short, The Awesomer samples a bit of everything - from gadgets to news, from clothing to movie trailers. The more interesting/funky/goofy, the better.

STARLIGHT/STARBRIGHT

Starlight/Starbright is a blog devoted to the musings, insights, random personal and philosophical questions, and occasional rants of an American woman in her 30's. You may also find some politics, pop culture, and pages about books and words I love.

It's only about a month old, so who knows what's to come? While I love to go on and on about myself (clearly!), I'm hoping my blog turns into a place where mine isn't the only voice being heard. So, feel free to visit and add your own thoughts (and answers to those random questions) and we'll see what we can create

Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman from Mythbusters created a paintball robot with 1100 guns attached to four high powered air compressors. They fired paintballs across 7 feet of space and within 80 milliseconds the canvas would show the Mona Lisa.

Stuff That Moves is a collection of video clips that capture amazing/funny/beautiful motion. My interests range from ballet to mixed martial arts and everything in between, so you're likely to find things as varied as dance performances, sports highlight reels, circus acts, creative music videos or commercials, stuff blowing up, general daredevil-ry, great feats of strength, people getting kicked in the crotch, and random internet craziness.

6 Very Unconventional MMO Virtual Hotels

For most of us, booking a hotel involves checking out our favourite travel website or calling the hotel directly, but for MMO (massively multiplayer online) fans, it's a bit different. For MMO players, booking a hotel involves checking in to their favourite online virtual hotel within their MMO game of choice, whether it be Second Life, World Of Warcraft or one of the other games.

The biggest names in the international hotel industry are getting onboard with this trend for massively multiplayer online games. So next time your avatar needs a place to stay in virtual space, check into one of these virtual hotels where lodging is literally out of this world.

The World's Most Hideous Doll

Nightmares come in different forms. Some creep into your dreams as you sleep. Some lurk in dark corners. And some come in the form of sick, disturbing dolls.

The World's Most Hideous Doll stands about 16" tall and is made of firm, painted foam. As you can see, the doll is a baby with two heads. One head is relatively normal, while the other is your standard-issue demon-spawn creature from Hell.

How To Cook An Alien

How to cook an alien? Why should you eat aliens? Because aliens come here uninvited, they ate Elvis, they mutilate our cattle, and probe abductees by shoving probes in their rectum and performing other unspeakable acts upon unsuspecting victims.

They are plentiful, more plentiful than the strained seas and land resources, and they seem to be coming in increasing numbers. They taste good if prepared well and their meat is safer than British beef.

That's why you should eat aliens.

Porsche I Can

Wouldn't you like to have a Porsche in your driveway? Now you can. At least, you can show a photo of a Porsche in your driveway and send it to friends and family to make them envy you.

Just take a picture of your driveway and upload it to Porsche I Can.
A 4 mega-pixel or higher will provide an optimal image but it has to be under 4 megabytes. Then select a car, and adjust the scene.

Here's my Porsche.

Goblin Shark Caught On Video

This bizarre-looking shark was found last year off the coast of Japan. It's a 'Mitsukurina owstoni,' or goblin shark.

Look at its alien-like retractable jaw, which seems to leap out of its mouth to catch its prey - mostly teleost fish and squid.

Firefox's Ubiquity

Yesterday Mozilla launched a new experimental browser plug-in that's going to change the way people interact with the web. You're used to telling Firefox where you want to go by typing web addresses into the URL bar.

With Ubiquity installed, you'll be able to tell Firefox what you want it to do by typing commands (in plain language) into a new Ubiquity input box.

For example, suppose you want to post something to Twitter. You bring up the Ubiquity window in Firefox and type the command:
twitter I'm experimenting with Ubiquity right now.
Then hit Enter. That's it, you posted to Twitter.

Another example. Right now, the email command uses Google Mail. Eventually the command should work with all major web-based email providers. Assuming you're logged into your GMail account, issue email. Then type something like:
email hello to mark,
assuming Mark is in your GMail contacts list. You'll be taken to your Gmail account, you click Send, and there you go.

Other things you can do with Ubiquity are look up something on Wikipedia, find a map, translate, calculate, search YouTube and Flickr, and lots more.

You can download Ubiquity at Mozilla Labs.

Here's a Ubiquity user tutorial.

The American Language In 3000 AD

Predicting the future of the English language is rather easy, in the short term. The odds are, over the next few decades its New World dialects are going to gain increasing global dominance, accelerating the demise of thousands of less fortunate languages but at long last allowing a single advertisement to reach everybody in the world.

Interesting article about the future of the American language.
For example, now we say:
We children beg you, teacher, that you should teach us to speak correctly, because we are ignorant and we speak corruptly...

In 3000 AD we will say:
Za kiad w'-exùn ya tijuh, da ya-gAr'-eduketan zA da wa-tAgan lidla, kaz 'ban iagnaran an wa-tAg kurrap...

International Angel Day

Doreen Virtue practices Angel Therapy. It's a non-denominational spiritual healing method that involves working with a person's guardian angels, to heal and harmonize every aspect of life. At a young age Doreen Virtue was clairvoyant, capable of seeing angels and other metaphysical beings.

The angels came to me and said, 'We want you to hold a day where people will give angel workshops worldwide on the same day and give part of the proceeds to children's charities in their different communities.' So I said, 'Ok, that sounds cool.' They told me to call it 'International Angel Day.'

International Angel Day is on September 7, 2008.

ARSENIC & APATHY

I live in Tennessee, but I was born in Georgia... Hot 'Lanta to be more exact. I currently live alone in all ways possible. I used to be married and have a daughter, but alas there was a whole sorted divorce and now it's just me...

Well I live to be adorned... I have many piercings and tattoos. I wear a lot of jewelry and as per my need to be 'a lady,' my clothes MUST match my purse at all times...

I hate my job, but since I am my Thesis away from a Master's in Counseling Psychology and I have no determination whatsoever, here I stay after 10 years.

Well here they are in the Monty Python Olympics.

What The Mona Lisa Can Teach You About Taking Great Portraits

When it comes to famous images the Mona Lisa by Leonardo Da Vinci is one of the most recognized in the world. While we live in a different time (the Mona Lisa was painted in the 1500s) and use different technology - is there something in this famous image that we can be inspired by as image makers today?

WEBPHEMERA

Why Webphemera? This may seem to you like a peculiar name – and it may not be a word that you have come across before. That's because it's made up! The word 'ephemera' means transient, everyday things that may be kept for a short time before being discarded. Often, auction sites will advertise items as ephemera when it really doesn’t fit in to any particular context!

So, away went the 'e' off the front on went the word 'web' instead. This blog's definition of webphemera is, again, everyday stuff, but stuff you may wish to go back to again and again.

I'll regale you with tales of our motorcycle club; the people, the rides and the parties, my job as a nanny, and just how nuts life can be in Denver, CO. I don't blog every day but I've been blogging for 8 years and I think I'm addicted.
